Energy storage with new battery chemistries
Think beyond lithium
Donald Sadoway has a worldwide reputation as an inventor of new battery chemistries. Taking the approach of extreme electrochemistry, he has developed new battery chemistries for stationary storage, as well as mobile storage including handheld devices, EVs, drones, satellites, and space exploration.
These batteries deliver high performance and cost efficient electric power. The Whole Earth Battery is particularly well suited to defense and aerospace applications.
Deep decarbonization demands intensive electrification. Renewable electricity, electrified transportation, resilient grids, and industrial decarbonization all require energy storage technologies that can scale without creating new safety, supply chain, or environmental risks. Professor Sadoway’s research directly addresses the need for alternatives that are safer, cheaper, longer lived, and less dependent on scarce or geopolitically constrained materials.
